The Lord Will Provide
I have always heard this truth in reference to God financially providing, but as of lately, I have been seeing the true depth and promise of this statement.
In all seasons and circumstances, we can trust that God will provide for our every need - spiritual, physical, and emotional. This is hard to believe sometimes, though. In the midst of difficulty or deep needs, we tend to look to ourselves and try to figure out how to get our needs met. This involves a lot of striving, worrying, fighting, exhausting ourselves, etc.
One of God's names is Jehovah-Jireh - Hebrew for "The Lord will Provide." This is His nature, His character, and His promise.
This is in all possible and needed ways.
Yes, financially. But think about this statement and promise even more deeply. When we find ourselves in a place of loss, God promises to provide the comfort we need, whether that is He, Himself, or through community and having that shoulder to lean on. When we find ourselves in uncertainty, He provides us with peace and hope. When we feel lost and confused, He provides direction.
Whatever season He has led you into today, you have all that you need when you look to Him as your true Provider. And whatever He is leading and guiding you into, He will show up and provide all that you need to walk faithfully and obediently.
This is not easy, though. Our flesh and our pride fight the Sprit within us daily. Faith is hard, and believing can be difficult. However, this reality does not make this promise any less real or true. Truth is truth.
As we look to Him and lean into actively trusting that He is who He says He is, He will reveal to us whatever action He needs for us to take in order for us to receive the fullness of His promise: where to go, what to do, who to reach out to, when to act, and how to obey His prompting.
God DELIGHTS in being our Provider. He knows that we are needy, and He is grateful to be our Helper.
This thought can sometimes be the hardest truth to believe. Why on earth would the God of the universe delight in or love to take care of me? He is so big and I am one in a million. And right here, loved ones, this is where the beauty of the Gospel meets us. God is our Father. He created us with a purpose. In Christ, He has chosen us and adopted us into His family. It is His promise to take care of us. Just as a parent longs to take care of his/her children, so does our Heavenly Father. The difference from our earthly parents, though, is God never despises or feels the burden of taking care of us. He is perfect in His being. He is never exhausted. He is never in need of anything Himself, so He can constantly provide and show up for His children's every need.
Truly just think about this for a minute. Sit on it. Be still and meditate on this beautiful reality and truth.
Because of our fallen and broken world and relationships, it is easy to believe that we are burdensome or not important. We believe our needs are not worthy of addressing, communicating, or bringing to the light. We do not believe that there is One who truly hears us, knows us, sees us, and loves us unconditionally. And to take it a step further, the reality is, He wants to listen to us, help us, and love us. He chooses to love us. It is His gift to us in Christ Jesus.
Recently, I was reminded that we have 2 options when faced with a gift: to accept it or reject it.
When was the last time someone tried to give you a gift and your response was "no, I'm not ready right now"? This is a rare response, yet this is typically our response to God's offering of a gift. We tend to believe we have to be "ready" or "good enough," but a true gift is from a place of love and with no strings attached. Again, our human minds cannot comprehend this because of the fallen world in which we live; but God is perfect in His very being. His character is perfect love; no strings attached.
I pray today that you would know just how loved and seen you are by the Father. I pray that you would take time to really reflect and see how exactly God is trying to provide for you in the exact season, circumstance, and hardship you might be facing.
What is bringing you anxiety today? What are you concerned about? What is making you feel angry or frustrated? Take a moment to truly reflect and get to the root of that feeling. What is your heart truly desiring and in need of?
Be brave enough to bring your thoughts, feelings, and needs to the only One who can truly Provide for you. He is for you; let Him provide for you. Let Him show you that He is exactly who He says that He is.
Take some time to read through Romans 8 and the book of Ephesians. May God reveal His truth to you today, that you may better know who He is and who you are in Christ.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!” - Psalm 46:10
Soli Deo gloria.
